That was amazing!
Your description of LARPing reminds me a little of this thing my girlfriend is into- the 'Lolita'-dress wearing community. It's a community of girls who were not popular in school, who've left school and created their own little domain they can be the masters of- yet, it seems to have just as much arbitrary rules and bullshit as the highschool world they just escaped. The only difference is they get to be the excluders rather than the excluded.
Man, if I found myself in a group of people with this many artifically-constructed societal do's and don'ts, I don't think I'd be able to help myself. I figure if these people are frowning at me, then I'm doing something right. And surely papier-mache counts as a flammable material?
I also still don't understand how Larping works! How can anyone keep track of the spells and whether a spell worked or not if you're all shouting them at the same time?
So many questions!

Look up at Eblocky's questions.
And yeah, I'd call paper-mache a leeeetle flammable. :)
Most LARPers are a little more mellow about it- and we tend to see the ones that take it too seriously just as badly as anyone does with That Guy.
Remember the "king" in Role Models, if you saw it? Textbook example. Games aren't meant to be a geek pecking order IRL, and most players will think of you as an unmitigated ass for doing so. Rule number 1 is to have fun. But as the comic says, don't F with the game to do it.)
As for tracking stuff? You'd be surprised, it's easier than you'd think...and if you're not sure, keel over and roll with it, or if people are going TOO fast...call for a brief pause (a "hold") and get things straightened out.
Folks get excited and loud when playing- I've been at games where the locals called the cops in because they thought a riot was on at the Scout camp we were using. They were much amused, so were we.

That is awesome! I found it somehow through Googling for my LARP system's staff forums, of all things, and I really like it! :D | |
